Swedish Spritz Cookies

For as long as I can remember every Christmas my mom would take out her cookie press and we would bake spritz cookies, package them up, and delivery them to all our neighbors. It was always so much fun and something I looked for to. This year we are baking them with my kids and I’m pretty sure they will ask for this every year 🙂

INGREDIENTS

 -1 lb butter

-2 beaten eggs

-2 cups sugar

-2 Tablespoons vanilla

-5 cups flour

-1/2 teaspoon salt

-1 t baking powder

-cookie press

-sprinkles (LOTS of sprinkles!)

Directions

1.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees

2.) Cream butter and sugar

3.) Add eggs and vanilla and beat well

4.) Add sifted dry ingredients

5.) Mix to form smooth dough

6.) Pack dough in cookie press and form cookies on ungreased cookie sheet

7.) Bake 8-10 mins

A bit of history
Spritz cookies are originally from Scandinavian countries and considered traditional Christmas cookies. The name comes from the German word Spritzen which means to squirt. You know how they kinda squirt outta the cookie press 😉 One Norwegian traditional is to make them in O and S shapes (those were always my favs!) They are also made in wreaths, stars, and Christmas tree shapes.
